Chapter One: Introduction
1.1 Background of the Study
Organizational change is an inevitable aspect of business evolution, driven by factors such as technological advancements, market dynamics, and regulatory shifts. Effective corporate communication is critical in managing this change, ensuring that stakeholders are informed, engaged, and aligned with organizational goals. In Biu Local Government Area, Borno State, businesses operate in a challenging environment characterized by socio-political instability and limited resources. These conditions amplify the need for robust communication strategies to navigate organizational change successfully. Research underscores the importance of clear and consistent messaging in reducing resistance to change, fostering trust, and enhancing employee morale (Brown & Green, 2023; Patel, 2024). Despite this, many organizations in Biu struggle with ineffective communication during change processes, leading to confusion, reduced productivity, and stakeholder dissatisfaction. This study explores how corporate communication strategies can facilitate effective change management, providing a blueprint for organizations in similar contexts.
1.2 Statement of the Problem
Managing organizational change in Biu LGA is fraught with challenges, including resistance from employees, miscommunication, and cultural barriers. These issues often stem from inadequate communication strategies that fail to address stakeholder concerns or provide clear direction. The lack of empirical research on corporate communication and change management in Biu further exacerbates the problem, leaving organizations ill-equipped to handle transitions effectively. This study aims to fill this gap by examining the role of corporate communication in managing organizational change, offering practical recommendations to enhance communication practices and achieve successful outcomes.
